The Women's Centre in Calgary Accepts Bitcoin Donations. - From The CoinFront

The Women’s Centre in Calgary has announced it is accepting Bitcoin donations.

The Women’s Centre, a non-profit organization, is geared toward providing a support network for women in Calgary, especially those who live in poverty. The idea is to provide a space where women can support each other, feel valued, and maintain a sense of dignity and of “giving back”.

These support programs include safety planning groups, legal advice clinics, tax assistance, provision of basic needs like food and personal care items when necessary, and more.

The Women’s Centre is processing their Bitcoin donations through CAVirtEx’s merchant adoption program, which provides free merchant adoption services for Canadian businesses. To donate, and for a full list of the programs they offer, visit their website..

The Women’s Centre is located at 39 4th St. NE in Calgary, two blocks north of the Bow River.

Cryptocurrency and Charity

Cryptocurrency is no stranger to non-profit organizations. Sean’s Outpost is a homeless outreach program located in Pensacola Florida which has been involved in the Bitcoin community for some time. Founder Jason King just recently completed a run across the continental US, from Pensacola to California, to raise money and awareness for the homeless and for Bitcoin. And other, stranger non-profits, like the cryonics organization Alcor, also accept Bitcoin donations.

Altcoins like charity too. Ultracoin recently sponsored Elsa Hammond’s solo rowing trek across the ocean in order to raise funds for charity, and of course Dogecoin has been highly involved in housing the homeless, building wells in Africa, and their much publicized drive to get the Jamaican bobsled team to the Sochi Olympics.

Because the transaction fees are low and the barriers to entry lowering every day, cryptocurrency seems like an ideal choice for non-profits.
