Twitch, the popular online video streaming platform, has begun accepting Bitcoin.
Effective immediately, the company has partnered with Xsolla to accept “over 600 new ways to pay for your Twitch Turbo subscription.”
Among these payment options are Dwolla, Skrill, OKPAY, MercadoPago, and, of course, Bitcoin.
Ramifications
The owners of Twitch have just recently completed negotiations with a deal that would sell their platform to Google for $1 billion USD, and integrate the platform into YouTube.
As a result, the phrase “Google accepts Bitcoin” is now technically true.
Will Twitch continue to accept Bitcoin once Google becomes its primary steward? And if so, will Bitcoin end up spreading to Google’s other properties?
