The Chamber of Digital Commerce, an advocacy group “to promote the acceptance and use of digital assets”, is holding an upcoming event in Washington.
The first Bitcoin Education Day will be held on Capitol Hill, and is designed to help familiarize US congress members on the nature of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency.
The day will be broken up into two different three-hour sessions of “congressional staff meetings”, during which Chamber of Digital Commerce members will meet with representatives of congress.
The Chamber of Digital Commerce is looking for participants from the Bitcoin community to help further the cause of understanding of cryptocurrency. Those who “agree to wear business attire and conduct themselves with the highest level of professionalism while on Capitol Hill” can apply to attend the event through the Chamber of Digital Commerce’s website.
The BitLicence
Bitcoiners worldwide, especially American Bitcoiners, are upset about the BitLicence proposal brought up in New York by superintendant Benjamin Lawsky, and the Chamber of Digital Commerce is no different.
They’ve created their own petition to extend the comment period on the BitLicence proposal, “to allow the digital asset and digital currency industry to formulate proposals to help the NYDFS develop regulations to achieve its stated and legitimate goals to protect consumers, root out illegal activity, and safeguard our national security.”
Other such petitions exist, and the fact that they’re popping up all over the internet suggests a strong backlash against the BitLicence the way it was proposed.
Will the Chamber of Digital Commerce, along with the over 500 individuals who signed the Fix the BitLicence petition, be able to turn the tide on the BitLicence, help educate government officials on what Bitcoin is and what it does, and create a more Bitcoin-friendly environment in the United States?
