Mycelium, the Bitcoin wallet company, has security as one of its primary focuses.
The company recently announced they raised enough money through their crowdfunding campaign to build their Entropy device, a paper wallet generator designed to work entirely offline.
This morning, the company has announced it has released the alpha version of their new wallet app, Mycelium 2.0.
What’s New With Mycelium 2.0?
From a UI interface, Mycelium 2.0 looks pretty much the same as it did before. But under the hood, “everything has changed”, said Jan Moller, Mycelium’s Principal Engineer.
One of the more useful features for average users is the ability to put labels on transactions. That way, you can easily keep track of how you spent your bitcoins from within Mycelium’s interface.
The transaction history has also been expanded. While previously it was limited to the last 20 transactions, it now includes a much longer history.
The transactions which you create while you’re offline will be saved now, and sent out once you actually connect.
You can also list the unspent outputs for each address you maintain within Mycelium 2.0 in your account. Moller calls this a “nerdy feature, but nice to have now that your balance is spread over several addresses.”
They also introduced a new HD wallet. HD stands for Hierarchical Deterministic, not high definition. This is a new type of wallet which improves on the original wallet designed by Satoshi. One of the major benefits is the separation of the creation of public and private keys, making it more difficult for hackers to access your wallet.
The Alpha test is currently available on Google’s Play store. To download it, click here.
