Bitcoin politicians are popping up across the globe. Sweden, Ireland, and various politicians across the United States have all begun operating campaigns based at least partially on Bitcoin.
And now, Sweden has not only its own Bitcoin politician, but its own Bitcoin political party.
Bitcoinpartiet
“Several companies who are veterans in the fast growing bitcoin market have previously been victims to get their accounts and funds temporarily frozen and blocked ad various manner”, says a Google-translated version of the party’s election manifesto. And this shouldn’t happen, according to the party.
Banks, big government, and other players in the traditional economy have already squelched the potential of many innovative companies which are properly registered and entirely legal.
“Bitcoinpartiet obviously want the banks to be able to act quickly when there is suspicion of crime, big or small,” the party explains. “No one wants that either fraudsters of terrorists to be able to go free.”
Bitcoinpartiet wants to see a system where banks are able to stop criminal activity, but legitimate businesses are also protected. If a bank freezes the funds of a business, and a prosecutor determines the company presents no legal issue, “the bank’s decision [should be] immediately suspended and the customer should be able to start a process to get compensation for the damage it may have suffered due to the incident.”
Idealistic About Bitcoin
Bitcoinpartiet is just as enthusiastic about Bitcoin as the most zealous of supporters. “When the party discovered Bitcoin by chance…we lost breath. We understood immediately that such a system will change the whole world, it will eradicate poverty as we know it, it will overthrow the corrupt officials and companies, countries will find it harder to start expensive wars.”
While some might see this enthusiasm as a bit hyperbolic, it’s hard to fault their love for Bitcoin, a love many of us share.
Bitcoinpartiet currently needs 1500 signatures to register as an official party in Sweden. To add your signature and show your support, visit their official website.
