The cryptocurrency world has allowed a wide range of interesting and unusual characters to rise to the surface. Passion and enthusiasm combined with an opinionated nature can help you become a popular, if controversial, figure.
Case in point: Christopher Bouzy, better known as IconicExpert.
For some time, IconicExpert has been involved in the cryptocurrency world, and dove in fully during the altcoin boom. His significant Twitter following has asked him several questions, which he’s answered below.
So who is the real IconicExpert?
My name is Christopher but people in crypto know my as IconicExpert, and for over 14 years I have been a software developer, inventor, business owner, and family man. I have coded everything from desktop security applications to mobile applications. I have designed circuit boards and built prototypes from scratch. I have a love of technology that spans multiple disciplines and areas of interest. Over the years I have created products and services that were eventually acquired by larger companies, and now I am fortunate enough to be able create projects for fun.
How did you get into crypto?
I learned about Bitcoin a few years ago, and I didn’t start taking crypto serious until the alt coin boom. For months I familiarized myself with the mechanics of mining and trading crypto. I pored over source code and consumed anything related to crypto.
How does it make you feel when some people accuse you of being a scammer?
It makes me laugh because I know the truth and my family knows the truth, that is all that matters to me. Until I joined crypto I never had any allegations of scamming in my entire business career. A few kids that did not like the outcome of a decision I made acted like juveniles and labeled me a scammer because they didn’t agree with the outcome. But the word scammer is used very often in crypto as if it is a weapon. You name any top crypto personality and I guarantee he/she has been called a scammer.
Speaking of kids, you have been a critic about teenagers trading crypto, why?
Yes I have been a critic of teenagers in crypto because big business will never take crypto serious until the childishness is removed from the equation. I have been part of technology communities for over a decade and crypto is the first community where I feel like I am in High School. I think young people will play a role in crypto growing, but there has to be balance. Right now the scale is tipped towards juvenile antics. Many of the crap coins being released are from teenage developers looking to earn quick money for video games and mining equipment. I wish I was joking but it is true. It is a dangerous combination when mixing teenagers and financial products together.
You get heckled quite often on Twitter, does it bother you?
Nope, I actually find it entertaining. With popularity and notoriety comes haters and critics, you can’t have one without the other.
You have been advocating the use of POD (Proof of Developer), can you elaborate why you think this is important?
POD is very important. The days of developers being able to hide behind screen names are quickly dying. There is a new coin launched every day, and far too many developers are launching multiple coins a month with the only intention of pumping and dumping their coin. POD will help minimize fraud by compelling developers to reveal who they are and showcase their experience. I am not interested in investing in a coin being run by a teenager in high school with no business and/or coding experience.
Some people claim when you invest in a coin it is often dumped and never recovers, is this true?
Yes and no. I rarely if ever dump coins, dumping kills profit and I love profit. When I pick a coin 180+ BTC goes pouring into that coin from my private investors and my Twitter followers. After several days most investors have moved on to another coin. If the coin is stable and strong, it will withstand the pump and sell off, if it is just another copy & paste coin it will eventually die. BlackCoin, CloakCoin, ViaCoin, and LiteCoinDark are good example of coins that lasted long after the sell offs.
Do you plan on creating your own coin?
Yes. When I do launch a coin it will not resemble anything currently being traded in terms of distribution and marketing. 99% of the current coins on the market are just the same thing over and over again with a few new features sprinkled in. Most devs make promises they can’t or never intend on delivering. When I do launch a coin everything will be ready from day one like it should be. I want everything to be a surprise when I decide to launch, so I won’t reveal any information yet. But I guarantee it will impress even the haters.
What is your favorite trading bot for Crypto?
I do not use off the shelf trading bots. I like to buy coins and setup sell walls manually. However, I did code a custom app to alert me when a coin I am in increases or drops by a certain value.
Which crypto exchange do you prefer to trade on?
Lately I prefer using
Bittrex because I think Richie and Rami are doing a great job. However, I use multiple exchanges at once so my sell walls can be bought faster.
How do you think you influence crypto?
I have influenced crypto in many ways. I was the first to use press releases for alt coins, and now every developer that has a half decent coin uses press releases to get the word out about their coin. I was the first to use the custom USB cards as cold storage and promotional items, and now more coins are adopting the technology. I was the first to use Twitter to giveaway coins using fun challenges, now I see dozens people doing the same thing. I have helped numerous devs behind the scenes, and you would be surprised how many top coins I have helped. I am one of the only people in the crypto community advocating for exchanges to establish a set of guidelines.
Do you trade fulltime?
If trading 17 hours a day 5 days a week is considered full time, then yes I trade fulltime
Do you have a team working with you?
I have a group of traders and investors and we call ourselves The Inner Circle.
Do you help others learn how to be independent traders?
Yes. I try to offer as much advice as I can, and I do give trading tips behind the scenes.
