I now pronounce you Doge and Lite. You may kiss the shibe.
Dogecoin’s latest update, 1.8, finally brings the controversial AuxPoW system which essentially merges the mining process between Dogecoin and Litecoin.
Merged mining was first proposed to the Dogecoin community by Litecoin founder Charlie Lee back in April. The idea is to allow miners who mine Litecoin to also mine Dogecoin, adding Litecoin’s hashing power to the Dogecoin network (and Dogecoin’s hashing power to Litecoin). This helps protect them against 51% attacks, a threat which both Dogecoin and Litecoin have recently been at risk.
Dogecoin Core 1.8 is a mandatory update for all Dogecoin users. Dogecoin users must update to 1.8 in order to keep all Dogecoin transactions on the correct fork.
