Whenever a payment processor begins accepting Bitcoin, it’s good news. This makes it easier for businesses to accept Bitcoin, especially online businesses, where Bitcoin shines the most.
While it’s great for Bitcoin companies to offer payment processing solutions, it’s better for already-existing companies to get involved with Bitcoin. That way, ecommerce shops have the option of accepting Bitcoin without having to change providers.
Klarna
Klarna is a Swedish payment processor. While their name may be unfamiliar to North American markets, its popularity in Europe is significant. They’re working with big names like Spotify, IBM, G-Star Raw, Lush cosmetics, Magento, Digital River, Scandinavian Airlines, and many more.
The company has begun to test Bitcoin as a means of payment on their system, but they aren’t just jumping haphazardly into it. “We want to launch it but we will not do that until we have assured ourselves that we can offer the customer the confidence that we can with other payment methods,” communications chief Erik Engellau-Nilsson told Swedish newspaper di.se (thanks to Google Translate). “Now waiting for an internal dialogue with us, where we and our lawyers will examine how the method can be adapted to current laws and regulations.”
This is a bit of an about-face for the company, whose CEO Sebastian Siemiatkowski had little faith in Bitcoin back in February. “As we see it, it is a bubble. I se no practical applications that are of interest to a large scale”, he told Bloomberg in an interview in February.
He hasn’t fully embraced Bitcoin, the way Overstock CEO Patrick Byrne has, though.
I’m still skeptical about the future of the currency but this solution should be seen in a different light. We want to offer all popular payment methods, regardless if it is invoices, cards or bitcoin. Anything to help our customers sell more online.
Bitcoin And Ecommerce
Bitcoin has been called the currency of the internet, and for good reason. While retailers who want to accept Bitcoin face some difficulty with Bitcoin’s slow transaction times, online dealers don’t have the same issue.
And as more payment processors like Klarna, PayPal, PlentyMarkets, Xoin, and many others come on board, so too will some of their clients.
