Mycelium 2.0 HD has now officially been released.
The long-awaited release was beta-tested over the summer by over 200 testers, and after some tweaking, Mycelium feels comfortable releasing their “biggest and most significant wallet update” to the world.
Do I Really Need A Hi-Def Bitcoin Wallet?
The wallet’s most important new feature is its HD element. Those hoping for a higher resolution look at their bitcoins may be disappointed to learn that HD in this case doesn’t stand for high definition, but rather hierarchical deterministic.
A hierarchical deterministic wallet allows you to make a single backup of your Mycelium wallet. From there, you can recover any future wallets made in that wallet. This is because all wallet numbers in the future will be generated from one master seed file.
This makes it easier to keep your Bitcoin activities secure, since you can generate a new wallet for every transaction without having to worry about backing it up each time.
What Else Is New?
Other than HD, Mycelium looks almost identical to the way it always has. There is, however, one exception: the tab which was previously labeled “keys” has been renamed “accounts”.
One very useful new feature, though, is the ability to label transactions in your transaction history. These labels don’t show up on the blockchain, but they do provide a useful tool for organizing your personal finances.
When you upgrade to the latest version of Mycelium, everything will be preserved from your original Mycelium wallet.
