Steven McKie, known to the community as simply McKie, has been removed from the BlackCoin Foundation.
The announcement was made yesterday morning on reddit, by McKie himself.
McKie claims his removal was due to “mild inactivity” while “dealing with personal financial issues and trying to establish some succinct structure back into my personal life.” He implies that it wasn’t his choice, and that he is “upset that this is the route being taken what with my history with BlackCoin being so long and far.”
It isn’t clear whether his removal was permanent or temporary, or whether there are deeper reasons for McKie’s removal. As of press time, his profile still appears on the BlackCoin Foundation’s page.
McKie was the R&D director for the BlackCoin Foundation.
Turmoil In The BlackCoin Foundation?
McKie isn’t the first director to be removed from the BlackCoin Foundation.
McKie himself spoke to The CoinFront a few days before his removal, and said that Adam Kryskow, US Representative for the BlackCoin Foundation, “has long since been removed from the Foundation.” He declined to comment on his own removal.
As it stands, the BlackCoin Foundation currently has three board members.
The Future Of The BlackCoin Foundation?
The BlackCoin Foundation’s other members spoke on McKie’s removal.
Michael Morris, the Foundation’s Executive & Business Development Director, clarified the situation.
Steven has done some great work for the Foundation and we would like to thank him for all his efforts for us. We do believe however that his recent endeavours and his forthcoming commitments would not allow him the increasing amount of time required as we move forward with BlackCoin development which is reflected in the appointment of David Zimbeck as the new Research and Development Director. We believe his experience and active development not only with the Halo product but many other areas, will be a valuable addition to BlackCoins resources.
International PR Director Joshua J. Bouw, meanwhile, shared a similar sentiment:
McKie, this happened with your best interests in mind. We know you are not active as you want to be. However with recent developments we can not wait around day after day for an update. It is nothing personal against you. I and others respect you. You’ll always be near and dear to Blackcoin’s heart.
The BlackCoin Foundation has spearheaded a number of BlackCoin’s victories, including the establishment of a BlackCoin mining pool, addition of BlackCoin to Coinkite’s platform, and organizing several BlackCoin PR efforts.
It’s unlikely that this event will be the demise of the BlackCoin Foundation, but it does suggest some uncertainty with its future.
